C.J. Spiller likely to play Sunday; QB starter still uncertain

By Jay Skurski

Barring a setback in the next couple days, running back C.J. Spiller will return to the Buffalo Bills' lineup Sunday against Kansas City.

"I feel good about C.J. playing," coach Doug Marrone said. "In talking with him, without any setbacks, we feel he'll be ready to go."

Marrone said the decision to rest Spiller last week accomplished what the team hoped it would in healing the high-ankle sprain he's dealing with.

As for the quarterbacks, Thad Lewis missed a second straight practice and remains "50-50" to play Sunday.

Bills make a pair of changes to active roster; sign QB Dennis Dixon to practice squad

By Jay Skurski

The Buffalo Bills continued to tweak the bottom of their 53-man roster by signing linebacker Ty Powell and cornerback Brandon Smith. To make room for them, the team released linebacker Marcus Dowtin and cornerback Johnny Adams.

Powell, 25, was signed off the New York Giants' practice squad. The 6-foot-2, 249-pounder entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft choice of the Seattle Seahawks in April. He was released prior to the start of the regular season and has spent time on the practice squad for both Seattle and the Giants. He started his collegiate career at DeAnza College and finished it at Harding -- proving if you can play, NFL scouts will find you.

Smith, 26, is a converted wide receiver who joined the team's practice squad Sept. 10 after being released by Green Bay on Sept. 10. The 6-1, 205-pounder originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Carolina Panthers in 2011.

Defensive back Brandon Smith added to practice squad

By Jay Skurski

With cornerback Johnny Adams being added to the Buffalo Bills' 53-man roster earlier in the day, the team had an opening on its practice squad.

It filled that this evening by signing defensive back Brandon Smith.

Smith comes to the Bills after being released by the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 1. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Arizona State product originally came into the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Carolina Panthers in 2011. Smith also spent time in training camp with the Seattle Seahawks.

He played in 25 career games with the Sun Devils in college, making four starts at cornerback.
