Sabres' schedule is out

Well, one piece of the puzzle regarding the Sabres playing an outdoor game at Ralph Wilson Stadium has fallen into the place. The Sabres will be hosting Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins on New Year's Day, the date of the rumored "Ice Bowl."

Various NHL sources have said the league would like to hold an outdoor game, and 1 p.m. Jan. 1 -- time of the opening faceoff for Sabres-Pens -- sounds appealing. No site has been named yet, so the game could fall back to HSBC Arena if logistics can't be worked out.

So, if the Sabres do play at The Ralph, that's the most anticipated game on the home schedule, right? Or is it Dec. 21 when Daniel Briere makes his first visit with Philadelphia? Or Chris Drury's Buffalo debut as a member of the New York Rangers on Feb. 23? Of course, there's always the opener on Oct. 5 against the New York Islanders.

Either way, fans now have something to look forward to.
