Spreading some kudos
I'm still in the HSBC Arena press box after midnight, still trying to make sense of what we saw happen here to Richard Zednik Sunday night. You probably are too.
I can't give enough thumbs-up to the medical staffs of both teams for their quick action. The coaches, GMs, veteran referee Bill McCreary and NHL VP Colin Campbell all acted professionally and compassionately. Once the word came that Zednik was stablized and en route to the hospital it made sense to me to play the final nine minutes. Sure, it was tough but it had to be done. Let's not forget the Bills and Broncos had an entire half to play when Kevin Everett was injured in September and they carried on as well.
Great move by the Sabres making an announcement to the fans that Zednik had been stabilized. We had received that word a minute or two earlier and the people in the building needed to hear it as well. As for you fans, I should stand and applaud you for your reaction to that announcement. Class all the way.
The news on Zednik is encouraging, that he has emerged from surgery and was resting comfortably. Here's to a speedy recovery for him. I know we said this in 1989 when Clint Malarchuk was injured and I'll say it here now: I hope we never see this happen on the ice again.

Having been at game last night, let's acknowledge the appropriate decision NOT to have the replay shown on the jumbo tron. There were many children in the arena & even as an adult it was very difficult to witness the incident. Too whomever made the decision of thoughtfullness & respect, we THANK YOU.
