Hey, Philly: Shut up
First off, check out today's game stories in the Philly Inquirer and the Philly Daily News.
Yes, the Derek Roy goal early in the third period Tuesday should have been a too-many-men-on-the-ice penalty. The Sabres were still chuckling about it this morning. The officials blew it. It happens.
In a warped way, maybe there was some justice there. Because how could Scottie Upshall's hit from behind on Henrik Tallinder not even get a minor? I thought the league warned the Flyers about blatant hits like this earlier in the season. This was a suspendable infraction and now it's not even two minutes? How many games is Tallinder going to miss because of a cheap shot that's not even called a penalty?
Lindy Ruff had an even better take-that to Philly coach John Stevens this morning. Remember when the Flyers were here last week and Jason Pominville got a delay of game penalty with 7:31 left in the third period for flipping the puck over the glass when it actually struck the board and ricocheted out? The Sabres haven't forgotten. The Flyers scored the game-tying goal on the power play 16 seconds later and handed Buffalo a killer loss in a shootout.
"I realized that Derek left early," Ruff said this morning. "There was no doubt. We all knew on the bench. But the whining and complaining about that is no different than Jason Pominville hitting the glass in our building against Philly and giving them a power play goal. If we're going to go back and whine about a play changed the game, I can find something to whine about every night. That play in our building changed the complexion of that game too."
Translation: Get over it, Philly. The Sabres are a man down tonight. You're lucky you're not too.
---Mike Harrington

I have a challange to Lindy Ruff:
Let me have access to the Sabres filmroom for a few days and I will show you 10-12 hits Adam Mair has made that should have been suspensions.
Is it possible to handle matters on the ice like grown men instead of the coach crying and the owner writing letters every other game?
1) Tell Mair to challenge guys head on. After Tuutu beat Mair at his own game of quick punch, I guess I understand why this doesn't happen more often.
2) Tell Kaleta to drop the gloves. Sure, powerplays are nice, and Kaleta can dish it out, but if you don't back it up nobody will respect you.
3) Andrew Peters should file for a patent on the "armbar neck grab" during a hockey "fight". I'm all for grabbing some jersey, but they should invent a new penalty for what Peters does. It's not really roughing, and it's not really fighting.....how about a 3 1/2 minute penalty for wasting my time.
Goodie! Washington is in town tonight. Maybe we can get Roy to hide behind Pratt then spear Ovechkin in the groin again!! Maybe that will fetch him the rotating C for the 2 games in April.

Wow, when I clicked on the links to the philly articles the first thing I thought of was it sounds like a jerry sullivan article.

Well I don't blame the town, I just blame the current crop of jerks that inhabit the area. Kinda how I feel about Boston. Its not the towns fault that idiots live there.
Philly town has given us a few pretty cool things. Like Benjamin Franklin, The Declaration of Indpendence, the Constitution, and Rocky Blaboa.

I find it rather amusing that they didn't mention the illegal hit on Tallinder... not a single mention in two seperate articles... Same old Philly: classless and willing to overlook thier own cheapshots.

Marty Biron...still not a good goalie. Man was I hoping he came over the blue line and hooked up with Miller for a fight in the 1st period. That would have been better than the ice bowl.

I absolutely hate everything about Philly and the Flyers. There isn't a single redeeming factor in that town, with those people, or on that team.
As for the officiating blunder with the Roy goal...well, it couldn't have happened to a nicer group of guys there in Philly. What a group of lightweights.

Like we are still stinging from the Briere loss? Last I checked he was about a minus 23 and counting.

The Philly Daily News calls us a team still stinging from the Brian Campbell trade. Are we "stinging"? How does someone in Philly come up with that description for the way we feel?

Philly got what they deserved... a loss.
The fans in Philly are completely classless and should be ashamed of themselves after booing an injured player when he finally got back up. I would hope they could feel some compassion but I suppose primates don't have that emotion.

Hey at least Roy put the puck in the big openning at the front of the net, that is supposed to be there, not the little one on the side that isn't.
Bitter? Yeah, I'm from Buffalo I was born bitter.

Lets hope the flyers keep up their loosing streak along with boston!!

Waaa Waaa Waaaa
Maybe they can find a way to blame Bobby Clarke.... very very un-Don Luce like.

Hang on, Philly is saying it's a set play to purposely have too many men on the ice? Yeeaaaahhhh, just like the set play where you put it in your own net. How idiotic. You lost. Get over it.

A cheap shot by the Flyers? That's novel. When will the league suspend the Flyers' coach for a few games? I don't believe that it is just "coincidence" that so many Flyers' players are involved in these situations. It is their system and ingrained into their style of play since they entered the league. And yes, get over the goal. At least it went in the net, unlike the "phantom goal" in the playoffs that was somehow missed by 2 referees, 2 linesmen, a goal judge and a video goal judge. Or the one that was kicked into the Sabres net in Calgary two years ago that counted because the video goal judge could not be bothered to check or ask Toronto (at least he got fired for that one). Kalinin: your chance to escape the dog house. Play with passion!
