Sekera called up; Kalinin in doghouse

PHILADELPHIA -- The Sabres have recalled defenseman Andrej Sekera, evidenced by the fact he is the fourth skater on the ice for the morning skate in the Wachovia Center.

The defenseman is back for his third stint with the Sabres this season. He has one goal, two assists and a minus-5 rating in 21 games. The Sabres have given up 14 goals in the past three outings, so coach Lindy Ruff must feel the blue line needs help. Ruff is skating laps side-by-side the 21-year-old, giving a chat.

The coach has moved on to skate with Dmitri Kalinin right now, and it's hardly the pep talk given to Sekera. The message, minus the on-ice profanities: "Play with some passion."

POST-PRACTICE UPDATE: Kalinin will be scratched tonight, as will Daniel Paille.

Jochen Hecht and Michael Ryan are skating in noncontact jerseys.
