Third jersey photo confirmed
This jersey photo that has been leaked is, in fact, the actual third jersey, The News has learned. Two other things have been cleared up:
1) The logo is the same color as the jersey, the darker blue. It only looks different because the different fabrics aren't reflecting the same.
2) It will have numbers on the front shoulder.

Not bad... I like to color usage and design. I could easily get used to this.

yeah baby, now that's a jersey, not that slug on the current jersey

There's a pretty good chance the logo was placed on the jersey after the picture was taken. After downloading the photo and taking it into Photoshop. There is a pretty odd pattern to it. If you look close enough to the folded pattern beloe the logo. The jersey hanging has folds in it. There is also a complete blue ring around the logo that matches the shaded areas of the jersey. If the logo was sewn on, you would loose of the ring to non-shading. To quoteaoldcommercial "Is it live, or is it memorex"??

Hey Sabres fans...if you were around since opening night in 1970...any explanation as to why the original white jerseys in the 70's and onward had mismatched stripes?...gold-blue-gold around the waist, and blue-gold-blue on the arms?!?
I never got why they did that...I know the basic layout was the old Leafs jersey ...but WHY the schizo stripe pattern...?
My theory is...Punch had Dodie sew up a prototype jersey for the board of Directors meeting and (shall we say) the refreshments were flowing , and a good time was had by all...LOL

Looks like a Bruins Jersey with the old Sabres logo on the front. I would like to give one to Bobby Murcer. RIP Great one.

Interesting photo...
It looks a lot better and I can't say that it appears altered. Although, a crafty person could fix up just about any photo to look real.
A camera phone image could explain why the first photo looks so bad. But maybe that was the only way for a photo to leak out. There must be a Deep Throat at Reebok or something...

here's another photo... tell me this one's a photoshop too. Found on sabrefans.com
http://sabresfans.proboards66.com/index.cgi?board=Sabres&action=display&thread=44018&page=17#822504
the photo posted in the blog is a low res camera phone image which helps to explain the artifacting.

This is NOT an actual photo of the real jersey. Anyone with experience in digital photography can identify that the logo has been pasted onto a stock shot of a different shirt. The resolution of the logo (in pixels per square inch) is much lower than the resolution of the jersey. Maybe it's a mockup used to show what the new one might be like, but I doubt that the final will look like this.
The questions now are:
1) Where is the Buffalo News getting their "confirmation?"
2) Who made this clever facsimile?
3) Will Tim Connolly finish the season off of the injured list?

I just love the non stop babble over a jersey that is old news!
Don Edwards is cute!!

PS I love the tie strings - I thought we were slighted by the league last year when the Winter Classic jerseys for the Penguins had them and the Sabres did not. I would have bouht one on the spot if it had the tie strings.

The original Sabres logo ranks on the same level with any of the original six logos - there is no doubt that it is a classic.
Some people just thrive on being miserable - the season has not even begun and some are already in mid-season "Staciu from Depew, your on WGR 55" mode! (That is no swipe at Depew - he was just one of those crackpots that would call in half-baked when I was a kid)
If I could complain about anything it would be the fact that I would much prefer having the whites on at home. The classic white home jersey was always my favorite to the blue road version.

FYI: Road and Home Jersey colors are not decided by the individual teams in the NHL--they are decided on a year to year basis by the league. (alternating dark and light on the road)
Do we have to print the instructions and rules for you guys like they did down in Carolina?
And who is the yay-hoo that never liked the Sabres logo at all?
Dude--the State of Carolina is only half full...move on!

i agree with jeremy. Stop being cry babies about it.just be glad the sabres org. threw us that bone. it's a good looking sweater.

please stop whining about this jersey guys... it's amazing and pretty much what people asked for in a classic re-work. it's just like human nature to whine even when it gets what it wants.

"Something worse than the road whites" chris? How about 1) any jersey worn by Dallas (especially the one with "Dallas" printed on the front); 2) any jersey worn by New Jersey, especially because of the ugly crest; 3) the Phoenix jerseys, apart from the logo, which they fixed. I could also throw in NY Rangers, since they don't even have a crest or a real logo. I am guessing that "Chris" is not the same person, but I take it he meant "losing" when he wrote "loosing"? And the Sabres' tradition is not "losing"; that's Columbus. (another ugly jersey).

i took this into photoshop, and aside from the logo circle being completely free of natural fabric hang, there is a tremendous amount of artifacting around the logo itself. i think that the "leak" is a way to get fans talking about this change before it happens. why not the new blue and gold project (google it)? that was a great update idea. anyway, i will always watch my hometown team no matter what they wear. i just hope that one jersey will have a "C" on the front this year. quit rotating the captaincy and let one player have the attention and respect that a winner needs. might be 52, but i think it should be a player that has been through the system, like a 9 or a 29.

I love this jersey. Looks exactly like the U of Michigan hockey sweater, and thats one of the best jerseys in the business. Fantastic look!!!!! Good job Regier and Quinn, you finally got something right.

"It is a SWORD that can do damage!! Just maybe a better logo would motivate the players to show some grit for a change."
Lotta good that those mean logos do for the Predators and Panthers. Are you serious? You think logos determine how teams play? Wow, I have heard it all.
Posted by: Chad | September 12, 2008 at 03:55 PM
IT IS A BORING LOGO and ALWAYS HAS BEEN!!! It is NOT classic.
Hockey is a game with SPEED and IMPACT. The Sabres have never, ever personified those qualities in their logo. A huge opportunity is missed again. A SABRE should be symbolized much better than this. HELLO! It is a SWORD that can do damage!! Just maybe a better logo would motivate the players to show some grit for a change. What fan in their right mind wants to show off those logos outside of the arena? The only tradition they remind one of is LOOSING!

Looks pretty cool. However I won't bash the "slug" as the ignorant call it. Why do a few big mouths that always blog and call radio stations think their opinions are mainstream. I think the fact that it was impossible to get the jerseys and the record number sold, not to mention 4 or 5 jerseys were tops in the nhl speaks for itself. Most people like the current uniform.

The road whites are the worst jerseys in the NHL. I dare someone to name something worse. My favorite jersey the Sabres have ever worn were the classic whites they wore in the 70s 80s and early 90s. I hope we can bring those back too at some point, but this alternative jersey is sharp. I just have to echo everyone's sentiments and say we need to make this our primary jersey. By the way this is a football town!

It's all about marketing and money. A team can rapidly increase the bottom line by changing colours and logos, because then fans rush out to buy the new ones. It seems to me that when they went from blue and gold to the black, the team sold more merchandise in two months than they had in the previous 5 years. If you never make changes, then fans just keep wearing the same jerseys. My old school white Dave Dryden jersey does not look any different from a Ryan Miller jersey (except that there were no name bars back then) and my old school blue Schoenfeld looks like a Spacek (except of course that Schoenfeld was captain). So now that they've exhausted the "black and white" market and the "blue slug" market, it's time to go back to a variation on the original style and sell more stuff. I might even have to buy one since my blue slug has 51 Campbell on the back.

Please John, drop the hint to the Sabres ownership which now includes Larry Quinn to make these and a similar white jersey our teams PRIMARY jersey and logo again. Bring some class back to the team.

Word is these will not be available, so if you want one put your orders in now...

This is so much better than the current jerseys that it almost makes me want to cry. Finally, the geniuses at HSBC decided to do what 80%+ of the fan base wanted and simply made slight tweaks to the classic jersey in the way that the Oilers, Whalers (RIP), and more recently, the Islanders did after their disastrous foray into wacko logo land. Get rid of the slug and make this the basis of our jerseys!

I guess people need to go back to school and learn how to detect photo-shopped pics.
Posted by: Stanley Cupless | September 12, 2008 at 10:12 AM
The logo looks obviously photoshopped onto the jersey and the cut (flares out at bottom of jersey and sleeves) is unlike the current reebok games jerseys, unless this is a goalie's jersey.
Posted by: Bob | September 12, 2008 at 08:52 AM
Matt - I won't slam you because it's personal taste, but in my opinion the current away jersey (white slug) is the worst jersey that they have ever worn ... by a large margin. The blue slug is a nice jersey with a bad logo. On the white, there is no dark color in the logo to contrast with the white, which washes it out.
The white and black goat head jerseys also looked really good in spite of their logo. The red was a great alternate; it just came from the wrong color scheme (as were the two goat head jerseys.) While I like the original blues, I've always thought that the original whites (actually, after 1978 when they added shoulder patches) were their best looking jerseys. The Winter Classic jerseys looked amazing.
I do, however, like the navy blue and the addition of the silver accents (though, not so much on the piping that just ends) on this jersey. I would be very happy if they took these and a similarly updated white throwback jersey and made them their primary jerseys. In fact, it really wouldn't surprise me to see just that in 2009-10.

Any word if these will be on sale the 20th?
Posted by: Yomomma | September 11, 2008 at 08:29 PM
I hope this replaces the slug. This is what most people wanted. Now make this our Primary jersey and get rid of the slug.

Glad to see Larry Quinn did not mess this one up. I am OK with a slight update on the classic look. The Habs and the Red Wings have a bit of extra time and history with their logo (also they did not have management that kept changing the logo). Why the 3rd jersey, nobody likes the current logo, dump it and let's go back to the classic.
Posted by: JMS | September 11, 2008 at 07:57 PM
Looks OK, an update on a classic. It's better than the main home jersey. I can't entirely believe I'm saying this but my favorite jersey of theirs remains the current road white. It's very modern-looking but with the original team colors, and the logo is better than the goat head. As for the old-school buffalo and sabres in a crest, people might slam this but let's face it, we're not talking about the Red Wings wheel and wing or the Canadiens "C" here. It's tradition, and yes it's classic, but it's not THAT classic. I always thought it a bit ugly, frankly.
