Gerbe injured; Kaleta back

Nathan Gerbe, the Sabres' rookie left winger, suffered a setback from getting checked Saturday and could miss up to seven games.

"He's got an upper-body injury and he's going to miss somewhere from 10 days to two weeks, stemming from the hit the other night," coach Lindy Ruff said today after Gerbe skipped the Sabres' workout. "He was examined again this morning before practice, and we're just a little concerned with how he reacted after yesterday's skate. The doctors found something and decided to keep him out."

Gerbe was hit by New Jersey's Jamie Langenbrunner. Clarke MacArthur replaced Gerbe on the line with center Derek Roy and right wing Drew Stafford.

On the positive injury front for the Sabres, Patrick Kaleta is cleared to play. The right winger had been out with a neck injury but will play Wednesday when New Jersey visits HSBC Arena.

Defenseman Teppo Numminen skipped today's practice for a routine checkup on his heart, which had a valve replaced last year.
