Lalime on the ice
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Jim Corsi is back to coaching the goalies rather than being one, and one of the netminders he is supervising is Patrick Lalime.
Lalime is on the ice for the morning skate in RBC Center, and he'll play tonight when the Sabres visit the Hurricanes.
Being in here with guys dropping left and right certainly takes me back to the 2006 playoffs. It seems like yesterday listening to Lindy Ruff talk about losing Jay McKee to a leg infection on the morning of Game Seven. Ruff and the players insisted that morning that no one was shaken by the mounting troubles. That turned out to be false, at least according to numerous players.
In conversations through the years, guys have repeatedly said they knew they were done when McKee went out. They obviously kept trying and got within 20 minutes of advancing to the Stanley Cup finals (which I'm convinced they would have won), but injuries and ailments do affect players. Can't help but wonder if they keep running into troubles if guys will lose faith. But I'm sure they aren't there yet.
