Darcy's deals

Darcy Regier has made at least one move at or near every trade deadline. Obviously, odds indicate something will happen before 3 p.m. Wednesday. Here are the GM's acquisitions:

1998: Paul Kruse and Jason Holland from N.Y. Islanders for Jason Dawe.

1999: Stu Barnes from Pittsburgh for Matthew Barnaby; Joe Juneau and a third-round pick from Washington for Alexei Tezikov; Rhett Warrener and a fifth-round pick (Ryan Miller) from Florida for Mike Wilson; second-round pick from Dallas for Derek Plante.

2000: Chris Gratton and second-round pick from Tampa Bay for Wayne Primeau, Brian Holzinger, Cory Sarich and a third-round pick; Doug Gilmour and J.P. Dumont from Chicago for Michal Grosek.

2001: Donald Audette from Atlanta for Kamil Piros and a fourth-round pick; Steve Heinze from Columbus for a third-round pick.

2002: Bob Corkum from Atlanta for a fifth-round pick.

2003: Daniel Briere and a third-round pick from Phoenix for Gratton and a fourth-round pick; Michael Ryan and a second-round pick from Dallas for Barnes; future considerations from Ottawa for Rob Ray.

2004: Mike Grier from Washington for Jakub Klepis; Jeff Jillson and a ninth-round pick from San Jose for Curtis Brown and Andy Delmore; Brad Brown and sixth-round pick from Minnesota for a fourth-round pick.

2005: No season.

2006: Second-round pick from Vancouver for Mika Noronen.

2007: Dainius Zubrus and Timo Helbling from Washington for Jiri Novotny and a first-round pick; Ty Conklin from Columbus for a fifth-round pick; Mikko Lehtonen from Nashville for a fourth-round pick; a second-round pick from Philadelphia for Martin Biron.

2008: Steve Bernier and a first-round pick from San Jose for Brian Campbell.

The best moves from here seem to be Warrener and Miller for Wilson in 1999, Gilmour and Dumont for Grosek in 2000, and Briere for Gratton in 2003. The worst has got to be the infamous Corkum deal. Not because of anything Corkum did or didn't do, but because it showed Regier knew his team didn't have the tools to make a serious run.
