No rest figuring out the defense

I can count to six or maybe seven but one look at the Sabres' defense and it just doesn't add up right now.

In no particular order, I've got Tallinder-Lydman-Rivet-Butler-Sekera-Butler-Paetsch from last season. Now you add Montador. And what to do about Weber and Myers? You would think Tallinder would have already been gone by now. Maybe Lydman too, although he had a better season last year than 07-08 and was really good when he wasn't covering up for Tallinder. Sekera's two-year, $2-million deal announced yesterday seems like a bargain so that's a plus.

Let's assume Rivet, Butler, Sekera and Montador are on the ice on opening night. We can all agree on those four, right? That leaves two spots. Maybe three.

As we sit pondering it in July, who is going to have those spots?
