Report: Ted Nolan to run Amerks
Good friend Kevin Oklobzija of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle is reporting that Ted Nolan will be named the vice president of hockey operations of the Rochester Americans today. The former NHL coach of the year with the Sabres will oversee the hockey operations and work with former minor-league teammate and Amerks legend Jody Gage.

Dwight - you got it right.
I think Lindy is great, but Teddy brought "Buffalo hockey" to this team. Teams that worked hard, fought and never gave up. You cannot get over Teddy hockey.
I said it before-Teddy Ballgame!

Hey Don H, wake up already. Ted went to the Islanders AND GOT THEM INTO THE PLAYOFFS...without a whole lot of talent.
At least his teams work hard every night. It would be poetic justice to see a new owner hire Ted and allow him to can Quinn and Regier.

From DUH: "Give me Nolan , move Ruff up to GM, and get rid of Marcy Regier..."
I'd say... Bring us Nolan as coach, boot out Quinn/Regier/Ruff, bring either Muckler or Bowman or Gainey as GM, and have Golisano sell the team to Eddie DeBartolo. Then... you'd start seeing results in practically NO TIME!!

Teddy Ballgame-hockey version
Man those Buffalo teams were fun to watch when he coached the Sabres. Nobody wanted to play them.
Heck with Rochester, Buffalo could use Nolan again!

If Nolan is so special, he would have been grabbed by a major league hockey operation long ago. Instead, he seems to get involved in controversy after a short time on the job.

Ted Nolan: Class, Hard-Worker
Larry Quinn: Arrogant, Ignorant
Let Ted direct hockey here and offer Darcy a one-year deal.

"sabotaging gm's?".. that is as good a conspiracy theory as the alleged moon landing by neil armstrong . i think it may have been the other way around. muckler, old school, knows alot of people, he is the one who kept nolan out of hockey. that islander team that played the sabres in the playoffs had no business being there. they were awful on paper. all nolan knows how do to is win, just does not compromise his principles. for this i laud him.

Ummm... who cares? He coached this team eons ago. Maybe he can do something in the American Hockey League. What did he do in the NHL except for sabotaging general managers? (Not that sabotaging the Sabres' GM would be a bad thing...)

make it personal?.. not sure about that comment.. but you said something about "the guy's jock".. hmmmm!.. by the tone of your posts it sounds a tad like you may like "lindy's jock".. a little too much.. i made a point about nolan's class and ability, right away you ran with the supposed theories about the "success" the sabres wrought after he left. i would submit that if nolan had the players that ruff had in the few times they experienced a modicum of post season success, a cup or two may have been won.. tough to deal with i know.. but it would be a reality.. enjoy another 10th place finish..

You win!! Ted Nolan rules. Have a good night.
And you managed to find another excuse: it was all Hasek's fault. Beautiful. He was only the best goalie in the world. Make it personal. I'm good with that. Still waiting for some facts. Poke around on this internet thingy. I'm sure you'll be able to compare Nolan's sterling coaching record with Lindy's. Ted can't hold the guy's jock.

to "my hometown".. "me think you protest to much!".. or someting like that!.. just a thought.. are you dominick hasek?.. really.. besides trying to deal with the off ice issues of hasek, he gave the city a team that truly represents its grit.. "kool-aide line".. i think it does fit .. i hear quinn calling you!.. he needs you to go pick-up coffee ... then change the copy paper..

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Kool-Aid line. Good one. Real original. What about good, old fashioned results? Let's all bask in the glory of Nolan's lone playoff series victory 13 years ago. And, of course, you conveniently left out that the two years the Sabres did make the playoffs in seven years, they went to the ECF. But Nolan's a winner and he'll turn Rochester around.

Good for you, Dwight. Minor-league hockey needs your support. Especially in Rochester where a once-proud franchise often drew flies last season under the wing of the mighty Panthers. There's always a built-in excuse with Nolan: the Islanders are a terrible organization, the Sabres blackballed him, noboby likes Native Americans, blah, blah.

Give me Nolan , move Ruff up to GM, and get rid of Marcy Regier...I long for the toughness we had under Nolan, they were not going to win the cup, but they sure were fun to watch...I get ill thinking of watching Vanek skate around people to avoid contact and the other players ruffing up Miller, who doen't need it because he is only a little better than average anyways..take Regier and Quinn and throw the out with the "aud" debris..
Posted by: DUH | July 01, 2009 at 02:31 PM
four trips , a stcf ,and 2.00 will get you a sunday buffalo news. whats the point?.. they missed the playoffs 5 out of the last 7 years!.. and they were "soft".. "uninterested", and boring!.. i will take the ted nolan brand of hockey any day!.. as you continue to swallow the quinn-regier-ruff kool-aide, i will watch rochester compete.. and WIN!
Posted by: dwight in philly | July 01, 2009 at 02:10 PM
I got over Ted Nolan long ago. Four trips to the ECF and one Stanley Cup final appearance will do that. To act like Ruff hasn't accomplished anything as head coach is ridiculous, Dwight. I'll entertain the argument that perhaps the team could use some new blood behind the bench, but Lindy would be unemployed for about five minutes, so intelligent hockey people see his value. Just as those same people have had little regard for Nolan over the past decade.

I am very happy for Ted. I have been a fan of his for a long time. I really thought that he could done some good things with the Isles, but that is one of the worst organizations in all of sports. It is great to see him working in this capacity. I may have to take a ride down to Rochester to see the Americans play.

good for ted!.. he is a class guy going to work for a class organization. the sabres have not been the same since he left them. i do not care what anybody says, that team that nolan took to the playoffs in the mid-nineties was the most entertaining team that this city has seen , played with heart and desire EVERY NIGHT!.. in the meantime we , as sabre fans have been played by quinn, regier and ruff.. i would take nolan back in a heartbeat, as i think most intelligent , hockey fans would.
