Canucks strengthening defense

The Buffalo Sabres need a trading partner if they are going to move a defenseman like Henrik Tallinder to make room for Tyler Myers or some of their other prospects.

The Vancouver Canucks were short on the blue line after losing Mattias Ohlund in free agency to the Tampa Bay Lightning. However, it appears the Canucks are going with a defenseman with more offensive upside as Sportsnet is reporting they are close to signing Mathieu Schneider, who finished last season with Montreal. This could be bad news for Marc-Andre Bergeron and Martin Skoula, two affordable defensemen said to be in Vancouver's sights.

There have been rumors that the San Jose Sharks will trade center Patrick Marleau,  who was just stripped of the captaincy, to Ottawa in a package that will net them Dany Heatley. Sharks GM told Yahoo Sports that Marleau has not been asked to waive his no trade clause.

In addition to checking out Marleau rumors, check out this post on Danny Gare's son nephew.

Meanwhile, this story on  Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro shows why the team signed two goalies in
the offseason, including Martin Biron.
