Ennis signs
The Sabres announced they have signed forward Tyler Ennis, their second of two first-round picks in the 2008 entry draft. It is a three-year, entry-level contract, with terms to come.
Ennis, selected 26th overall after the Sabres picked Tyler Myers with the 12th selection, was a potent scorer in juniors who had one year of eligibility remaining with Medicine Hat. He scored 46 goals in each of the past two seasons, adding 48 assists in 2007-08 and 42 helpers last season.
The speedy and shifty Ennis will have to prove his lack of size can translate to the professional level. The 5-foot-9 center weighs 163 pounds at a time when the sport is transitioning back to big bodies.
Ennis figures to start his career with the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League.
