Practice points
The Sabres had two sets of practices Friday in HSBC Arena before roughly half of them head to Detroit for Saturday's game against the Red Wings.
Here's some notes from today's camp session:
Injuries
1). Steve Montador is nursing a neck stinger from a scrimmage collision Tuesday with Jeff Cowan and Lindy Ruff said he will sit for precautionary reasons for a couple of days.
2). Matt Generous, the former St. Lawrence University defenseman who signed with Portland late last season, is out at least a month with an ankle tendon that was sliced about 20 percent. He has to stay off the ankle for a couple of weeks.
3). Adam Mair (hip surgery) has been cleared to start skating on his own.
Roster
1). Ryan Miller will play the full game tomorrow in his native state. Ruff said he will play three full games during the preseason. Ruff also said Tim Kennedy and Nathan Gerbe, both of whom desperately wanted to play in the game, will get the chance. Kennedy was a star at Michigan State and Gerbe grew up 40 minutes from Detroit.
2). Ruff on Kennedy and Gerbe: "We want to see them as much as we can. They'll probably play four of the six [exhibition games]. Detroit ill be a good team for them to play against. I liked their games for the most part last night. ... I liked what they did on what should have been the game-winning goal [Kennedy's tally with 2:32 left on assists from Gerbe and Philip Gogulla.) Made a great play. It's going to be interesting to see them in further exhibition games."
3). Ruff said Tyler Myers will continue to get long looks as well on defense. "He's in a tough position. We evaluate and there's only one place for him to go if we don't like him enough [back to juniors]. You can see there's growth. You can still there's still work to be done. You balance it do you want to do the work here, have him play some games and be a depth guy or is he ready to step right in and play... Could he play? I think the answer is yes. Is it the best thing for him? That's what we talk about every day."

Darcy knows wht he is doing, he is making Vanek the team's new enforcer...if any one goes after Miller for the 13th in one game, Vanek has permission to hit the guy by using Gerbe as a club..

it's not fair that the other teams in the league push Marcy's boys around the rink every time they play..Regier thought this was a no contact league..when they they change the rules?
