ROCHESTER -- The Sabres' minor-leaguers are on a major roll. The Pirates are in Rochester's BlueCross Arena tonight seeking their franchise-best 11th straight victory.
They're going to have to do it with a depleted lineup, especially among the forwards. Nathan Gerbe isn't on the trip with a groin injury and will miss his 12th straight game. Paul Byron is out with a lower-body injury. Travis Turnbull was nicked up during Friday's win over Albany. Cody McCormick is sick.
With their absences, defensemen Dennis Persson and Drew Schiestel are expected to dress and pitch in up front.
Still, the Pirates are confident.
"We’re just on a roll and finding ways to win," forward Tyler Ennis said this evening. "It’s been going really well, especially since we don’t have guys like Gerbe and Byron in the lineup, so we’ve been battling. Everyone’s been stepping up and chipping in.
"We’ve pretty much had Gerbe out of the lineup for a long time, and he’s probably our best scorer, so it’s good that everyone’s contributing offensively."
