The preseason objective was clear: The Buffalo Sabres wanted to return to the playoffs after a two-year drought. A win tonight against Ottawa completes that plan.
"Our goal was to get back in the playoffs after being as close as we were the last couple of years [2009, 2008]. We’d like to get it done tonight," coach Lindy Ruff said this morning. "Our goal now is to try and win a [division] championship."
The Sabres canceled their morning skate again today, with only injured Raffi Torres, scratched defenseman Andrej Sekera and backup goaltender Patrick Lalime taking the ice. Most of the other Sabres were milling around, working on equipment and getting ready for their nemesis.
"We know it's a big game," forward Adam Mair said. "I'm sure they view this as almost a must-win, especially if they have hopes of winning the division. We want to continue playing well, especially at home."
