On the farm: Ennis honored, KO'd; Gerbe back

Portland Pirates center Tyler Ennis was named AHL Rookie of the Month today but the Sabres are probably holding their breath over their prized prospect's health after he was knocked out of Sunday's game against Albany by a cross-check to the face.

Ennis is officially listed as day-to-day and this story from the Portland Press Herald details the incident and coach Kevin Dineen's unhappy reaction. The same story, meanwhile, tells us that Nathan Gerbe was back in the Portland lineup Sunday. He has missed 16 of the last 17 games with a concussion.

Ennis had 17 points in 14 February games (six goals, 11 assists). He's ninth in the league in scoring with 59 points (19-40) and leads all AHL rookies.
