Bulletin: Vanek on the ice

BOSTON -- Thomas Vanek is on the ice at TD Garden. He was one of the first five Sabres on for the morning skate. Cody McCormick is also out there and so is Matt Ellis.

UPDATE: Vanek looks ginger on the ankle. He's doing a lot of turning, leaning and pushing on it to test it. It's an optional with about a dozen players on the ice. He shook his head at one point after taking a shot. Realistically, this is a first test. I would still rate it unlikely he plays tonight but Friday may be realistic. And if there's a Game Six, remember the extra day off. It's not until Monday. That could certainly be in play.

UPDATE II: Lindy Ruff just said Vanek is a "game-time decision" for tonight. Matt Ellis is out. Cody McCormick is in.

UPDATE III: Quotes from Ruff: "He's doing well. I didn't really anticipate him skating today. He felt better so that part was encouraging.

"That will be a game-time decision on whether he plays. We're just trying to get him a little extra ice to see what he looks like."

The media is still inside the Sabres dressing room, waiting to speak Vanek after he finishes receiving his medical treatment.
