Sabres sign Adam

BOSTON -- Luke Adam, who has shot up the Sabres' prospect rankings with a stellar season, has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the club. He is in Buffalo today for a physical and is scheduled to report to Portland on Friday.

Adam, the Sabres' second-round pick in the 2008 draft, was a scoring machine for Cape Breton in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He was fifth in the league with 90 points, scoring 49 times and adding 41 assists in 56 games. The 6-foot-2, 203-pounder also played well for second-place Canada in the world juniors.

"He had a very good year," Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier said in TD Garden. "It’s not unlike, in some ways, Tyler Myers. He benefited from the world juniors and really picked up the pace from that point on."

Regier also told The News that prospect Jacob Lagace will join the Pirates for a tryout. Buffalo's fifth-round pick in 2008 scored 30 times in 35 games with Chicoutimi of the QMJHL.
