It's certainly a happy 36th birthday for Patrick Lalime, who re-signed with the Sabres today.
"I don’t think there’s really a better way to celebrate it," Lalime told The News by phone from Quebec. "I’m very excited about going back there and seeing the guys again, and looking forward to having a good year.
"It’s a special group in this room. I’ve been around the league quite a bit, and I think we have a good thing going on in there. We want to build on the good things we did last year, and I’m looking to be a big part of this."
Lalime said the sides had a couple of talks over the past week before agreeing to a one-year, $600,000 deal. He'd obviously heard the Sabres were investigating whether to promote Jhonas Enroth to be Ryan Miller's backup, but in typical Lalime style he shrugged off the job worries.
"This is out of my control," he said. "For myself, I just want to do my job and do my best and help the team to win."
