The Sabres have signed an enforcer candidate for their Portland roster, agreeing on a two-way deal with former Carolina tough guy Tim Conboy.
Conboy, 28, is a 6-foot-2, 210-pound winger. He will make $550,000 if he plays in Buffalo and $105,000 on the AHL part of his deal.
Conboy has averaged 138 penalty minutes a season the last six years in the AHL with Cleveland and Albany. He had no goals, three assists and 87 penalty minutes in 37 games last year for Albany, and no points with 24 penalty minutes in 12 games for Carolina.
Conboy got a four-game suspension for his part in a brawl with current Sabres forward Nathan Gerbe during an Albany-Portland game in HSBC Arena in February, 2009. He also got an eight-game ban following an Albany-Philadelphia brawl during the 2008 AHL playoffs.
