An early look at the Sabres' new jerseys
Greetings, y'all. Hope your offseason was stellar. Since we have a chill in the air on my first day back from vacation, how about we bundle up in the Sabres' new jerseys?
The sweaters -- to be officially unveiled Sept. 18 at the opening day of training camp -- are pictured in this post. While there have been numerous leaks and false drawings this summer, I have seen the 40th anniversary jersey and this is indeed it.
The anniversary jersey is to be worn as a third jersey. The team touts that the "classically designed uniform is a tribute to not only the history of Buffalo hockey, but early NHL jersey designs," and there is a nod to the Buffalo Bisons, the Sabres' hockey predecessors. The printed Buffalo across the chest and the line underneath are nearly identical to the Buffalo in the historic bottlecap logo.
The classic logo below the word Buffalo has been altered to include the year 1970, the Sabres' first season. It can be seen throughout the Sabres' Web site. I have heard the names on the back of the jersey will be gold.
The new white jersey -- which, as previously written, will replace the "slug" -- is similar to the Sabres' original sweaters with a few modifications. The stripes at the bottom used to be gold-blue-gold (as seen in this Pat LaFontaine picture), but this new one -- which I hadn't seen until today's picture on Icethetics.info -- has blue-gold-blue. The outer stripes on the arms, shoulders and waist are also thinner than the original.
