Fans with high-definition televisions are finally getting their wish as the Sabres announced today that 81 of their 82 games will be broadcast in HD.
MSG Networks will be the home to 72 broadcasts this season and the games will also be distributed by MSG in HD. Buffalo’s home game on Dec. 21 against Anaheim will not be seen on TV because Versus will televise a Washington-New Jersey game and they have exclusive U.S. rights to all games that night.
Buffalo will appear eight times on Versus (all in HD), and once on NBC (Feb. 20 versus Washington). The Sabres also appear on NBC’s flex schedule for two games: Jan. 23 at the Islanders and March 6 at Minnesota. Both games are currently scheduled to air on MSG if NBC doesn't take them.
Rick Jeanneret and Harry Neale return to call the action for MSG telecasts.
Three broadcasters will step into the booth when Jeanneret takes a pair of vacations. Mark Jeanneret, the son of Jeanneret and play-by-play voice of the AHL’s Portland Pirates, will call the action Dec. 27 (at Calgary) and Dec. 28 (at Edmonton). MSG host Kevin Sylvester returns to the booth for a fourth season when he fills in for four games: Jan. 1 (vs. Boston), Jan. 4 (at Colorado), Jan. 6 (at San Jose) and Jan. 8 (at Phoenix). Dan Dunleavy, a sportscaster for FAN 590-AM in Toronto, will handle play-by-play duties Jan. 25 in Ottawa.
The Sabres also announced today that their preseason game on Tuesday against Ottawa will be aired on MSG at 7:30 p.m. The game will take place in Dundas, Ont., as part of the annual Hockeyville celebration.
