Sabres trim camp by 14

The Sabres have made their training camp group 14 players smaller, sending 12 players to minor-league Portland and two back to their junior teams. They have 35 players left in camp, including junior-eligible Zack Kassian.

Forwards Jacob Lagace, Maxime Legault, Dennis McCauley, Brian Roloff, Felix Schutz, Colin Stuart, Corey Tropp, Travis Turnbull and Derek Whitmore were assigned to Portland, along with defensemen Alex Biega, Tim Conboy and Nick Crawford. Stuart, Conboy and Whitmore need to clear waivers.

The Sabres have 19 forwards, 12 defensemen and four goaltenders left in camp.
