When the Sabres called up Jhonas Enroth to replace injured goalie Ryan Miller, it left their affiliate in the AHL, the Portland Pirates, short a goalie for their game against the Charlotte Checkers and moved David Leggio of Williamsville into the starting role.
After allowing the tying goal in the last second of regulation on Tuesday, Leggio stopped four of five shooters as teammates Luke Adam and Corey Tropp scored to claim a 4-3 victory in the shootout.
Leggio ran his season record to 5-0 with a .925 save percentage and 2.50 goals against average.
The Portland Press details the game and what the Pirates did for a backup goalie.
