Things didn't get any better for the Rangers once they left Buffalo. They got drilled, 6-2, Thursday night in the Nassau Coliseum by the New York Islanders as Henrik Lundqvist got pulled after a four-goal second period and they went 0 for 7 on the power play. It all left coach John Tortorella at a loss for words. Or at least, he didn't choose to use any with reporters afterward. Check out his post game "press conference" courtesy of the New York Daily News Blueshirts Blog:
(Background: "Brooksie" is New York Post reporter Larry Brooks. "One of those" is a reference to the famous Tortorella-Brooks exchange in 2007 after a playoff game in New Jersey when Tortorella, then Tampa Bay coach, simply kept answering "we know what we did" to every question. A disgusted Brooks finally asked, "What did you do?" and then exchanged profanities with Tortorella. The whole exchange was shown live on CBC. It's on YouTube. Go find it. It's a classic. Just can't put it here because of the F-bombs.)
The Rangers still have a three-point lead over Carolina for eighth place but the Canes have a game in hand. The Sabres hold the tiebreaker edge over the BlueShirts for seventh.
