Another top forward off the free agent market

The Buffalo Sabres' desire to add a forward has gotten more difficult. Washington is set to announce it has signed Brooks Laich to six-year contract extension worth $27 million.

Laich, who can play center and wing, likely would have been on the Sabres' wish list. The free agent list gets thin.

In other news:

*The Pittsburgh Penguins have reportedly agreed with forward Pascal Dupuis to a two-year contract worth $3 million.

*A person close to the situation told the Associated Press that Chicago businessman Matthew Hulsizer is out as a potential buyer of the financially troubled Phoenix Coyotes.
