BOSTON -- Bruins coach Claude Julien quickly came to the defense of his goaltender this afternoon when he was asked about Tim Thomas, who was caught out of position 11 seconds into overtime in Game Two en route to a 3-2 defeat.
Thomas has been superb in the playoffs and is the favorite to win the Vezina Trophy for the second time in his career. He has allowed only four goals on 67 shots in the two games and has a 2.27 GAA and .930 save percentage in the postseason. But he has shown a tendency to wander too far from the net and get caught in certain situations.
Julien was asked whether it was something the Bruins need to accept and whether the Bruins needed to adjust around his style.
"All year long, we have played in front of Timmy Thomas," Julien said. "To me, he's a Vezina Trophy winner. We are here right now because of his contribution, which has been really good. For us to be sitting here and answering those kinds of questions is ridiculous to me."
Said Thomas: "I have a pretty good idea of how to play goalie. I'm not going to taking suggestions ir advice at this time."
