Here's what we know about the Sabres and Christian Ehrhoff with less than 20 hours till the start of free agency:
*Sabres management is still working in HSBC Arena.
*Ehrhoff's agent, Rick Curran, confirms the sides have talked, but other than that he's in "silent mode."
*It's past 10 p.m. in Germany. If Ehrhoff needs a night to sleep on whether to sign with the Sabres, sleep will likely come in the next couple of hours or so.
Now, with that out of the way, here's what we think about the Sabres and Ehrhoff with less than 20 hours till the start of free agency:
He's better off waiting till Friday to sign with anyone.
Even if the Sabres impress the defenseman with their presentation and offer, he is mere hours away from seeing what the other 29 teams would offer. If he wants money, there are teams with plenty to spend. If he wants a contender, there are others out there.
If he finds out his best fit is with Buffalo, he can still sign (re-sign?) with the Sabres on Friday afternoon. There's the chance Buffalo could pull its offer, of course, making him regret the decision to wait.
Still, it's a decision he would be wise to make.
