Double duty for NHLPA as it examines league's offer, disclaimer of interest

It figures to be another busy day for the NHL and its players' association.

The union is examining the offer delivered by the league Tuesday night and expects to get back together with NHL executives sometime today. If the NHLPA brings another counterproposal, that will make four formal offers exchanged in less than a week.

The union has also reached its deadline to file a disclaimer of interest. The legal move would entail NHLPA executives removing themselves as the representatives of the players, who could then file antitrust lawsuits against the NHL. Players gave the NHLPA executive committee the power to dissolve through a membership vote.

If the NHLPA does not file the disclaimer by midnight, players would need to vote again should the union eventually decide to use the bargaining tactic.
