After spending all day Monday coming back from Germany, Sabres captain Jason Pominville rejoined 10 teammates on the ice Tuesday at Northtown Center of Amherst.
Pominville played for Adler Mannheim, the German team the Sabres played an exhibition game against prior to their two European openers in 2011. His center? Former Sabre Jochen Hecht, who is currently a free agent after concussions basically wiped out much of the last two seasons in Buffalo.
Hecht said after last season he wasn't ready to retire and is now healthy. The Sabres need centers. Pominville says the team should re-consider their longtime veteran.
"He looks great. He's healthy. He's the same Jochen that he's always been," Pominville said. "Just one of those guys who is so solid at every area of the ice and was playing really well. No health issues. Everything is fine. He's just staying there patiently and waiting for an opportunity to play. Whatever teams gets him -- hopefully it's us -- they're going to have a good player, that's for sure."
