The NHL and its players' association met with a federal mediator until nearly 1 a.m., but both sides say there's a long way to go toward a collective bargaining agreement. They'll try to bridge some gaps when talks resume at 10 a.m.
Commissioner Gary Bettman said the NHLPA did not inform him of any desire to file a disclaimer of interest, which would have essentially dissolved the union and opened the NHL to antitrust lawsuits. The players' association had a midnight deadline to file, though they reportedly can re-vote and file later.
