OTTAWA – Jhonas Enroth is getting another chance to do something he hasn’t done in 15 months: win.
The Sabres’ backup goaltender will get the start tonight in Ottawa against the Senators. Enroth is 0-1 this season and hasn’t won since Nov. 26, 2011. He finished last year on an 0-9-2 skid and suffered a 6-3 loss in Carolina in his only start this year.
He replaced Ryan Miller for the third period of Saturday’s 6-1 debacle in Montreal and gave up two goals on 11 shots.
“He didn’t like his first game,” coach Lindy Ruff said today in Scotiabank Place. “We want to get him time. There’s going to be times now where either guy’s going to have to be ready to go in.
“I think in Jhonas’ case, he needs to win us games. He played well over in Europe before he got here. We need to put him in, and we need a big effort out of him.”
Enroth will not have the Sabres’ most consistent defenseman in front of him. Christian Ehrhoff will sit with a muscle strain. He tried to participate in the morning skate but lasted only a few laps before retreating to the dressing room.
“He didn’t make it through it, so he won’t be playing,” Ruff said. “This is just a muscular thing that just popped up. That’s all.”
Adam Pardy, recalled from Rochester on Monday night, will make his debut with the Sabres. The defenseman was acquired from Dallas as part of the Steve Ott trade and played five games for the Amerks, recording three points and a plus-3 rating.
The 6-foot-4 blue-liner will be paired with 6-8 defenseman Tyler Myers.
“Two big guys out there, so hopefully we can cover a lot of ice and just shut down defensively and get the job done,” Pardy said. “It was nice to play those games down there and just play a lot of minutes and play a lot of situations. It’s really helped to get that mental stability back to be able to come back and play a game.”
