Injuries around the league

By Mike Harrington

One fear of teams in a shortened season was injuries piling up because of all the games getting pushed into a compressed calendar. It seems like a lot of teams are living that nightmare.

The Sabres currently have four guys on the shelf: Ville Leino (hip) and Robyn Regehr are on injured reserve while Andrej Sekera (ankle) and Patrick Kaleta (neck) are also out. Only Leino, however, seems like he's out longterm.

Here are some of the notable injuries around the league:

NYR--Ryan Callahan (shoulder), 10-14 days, Chris Krieder (ankle), on IR.

OTT--Jason Spezza (back surgery), out indefinitely, Jared Cowan (hip surgery), out for the season

PHL--Scott Hartnell (broken foot), 1-2 months, Andrej Meszaros (sprained shoulder), 1 month; Wayne Simmonds (concussion), indefinitely.

BOS -- Shawn Thornton (concussion, courtesy of John Scott). Out 10-14 days.

COL -- Gabriel Landeskog (IR with head and neck trouble), Steve Downie (out for season with torn ACL)

STL--Jaroslav Halak (strained groin), on IR

DAL -- Ray Whitney (broken foot), 4-6 weeks

TOR -- Joffrey Lupul (broken forearm) 4-6 weeks

VAN -- David Booth (strained groin) 4-6 weeks, Ryan Kesler (shoulder surgery), on IR

WAS -- Brooks Laich (strained groin) on IR

WPG -- Zach Bogosian (wrist surgery), out indefinitely.

LA -- Willie Mitchell (knee surgery), return uncertain, Matt Greene (back), out for the season.
