FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The music was blaring and hands were high-fiving in the Sabres' dressing room following their 2-1 victory Tuesday night over Tampa Bay, but it was back to the everyday scene today for the NHL's 29th-place club.
Buffalo is well-aware that improving to 7-12-1 doesn't do much in the grand scheme.
"It’s one game," left wing Jochen Hecht said. "To get back into the playoff picture, we’ve got to put a string together of four or five games in a row."
They go for two in a row Thursday against the Florida Panthers, who beat Pittsburgh, 6-4, Tuesday for just their second win in nine games.
"The only way you can build your confidence is to put a game together, then hopefully come back and play well in the fourth period and the fifth period," Sabres interim coach Ron Rolston said in BB&T Center in Sunrise. "That’s kind of our concentration right now after the last game. The message is that tomorrow night’s first period is the next step in trying to build that confidence. It’s the only way you’re going to do it."
