RALEIGH, N.C. -- Justin Peters has taken a direct flight from Charlotte to the Carolina crease.
Peters, called up by the Hurricanes on Monday after Cam Ward suffered a knee injury, will start tonight in goal against the Sabres. Dan Ellis, who had been serving as Ward's backup, is ill but will be on the bench.
Peters will make his season debut tonight in PNC Arena. He has 28 career NHL starts, going 11-11-3 with a 3.23 goals-against average and .900 save percentage.
The 26-year-old has one appearance against Buffalo, during his rookie year of 2009-10, and is 0-1 with a 8.28 GAA and .714 save percentage.
Peters played 37 games for the Canes' AHL team in Charlotte and went 22-12-1 with a 2.29 and .921.
