We're expecting to get an update in the 1 o'clock hour from interim coach Ron Rolston regarding the Brian Flynn callup, so here's some items to ponder about today's Sabres-Devils matchup:
---The Sabres are trying to win three straight for the first time this season.
---Buffalo is trying to avoid its first four-game winless streak at home since it went 0-3-1 from Feb. 13-20, 2011. The Sabres haven't dropped four straight here in regulation since Oct. 15-Nov. 5, 2010.
---Buffalo is just 1-4 in afternoon games thus far. The Sabres have three more after today.
---Christian Ehrhoff's average time on ice of 24:51 per game is the highest for a Sabre since Alexei Zhitnik's 25:01 in 2003-04. And they both have something in common: Wild shots from the point that just about take people's heads off in front of the net.
---Jason Pominville has just one goal and no assists in his 11 games. Yikes.
---Rolston coached prized New Jersey rookie Stefan Matteau in 2010-11 with the U.S. National Team Development Program.
---New Jersey's Ilya Kovalchuk plays his 800th NHL game today.
