PHILADELPHIA -- The Sabres have lost 10 games by one goal this year. They're just good enough to be bad, in a manner of speaking. Think any semblance of a power play might turn around some of those numbers? Uh-huh.
The Philadelphia Flyers were in complete crisis and Buffalo failed to respond to the home team's early push. Get a a quick goal and you might turn the crowd against them. Didn't happen. How uptight were the Flyers coming in?
"We can all read and we can all count," goalie Ilya Bryzgalov said after the 3-2 victory that helped the Flyers avoid slipping as low as 14th in the East and gave coach Peter Laviolette a clear stay of execution.
The Sabres, meanwhile, were not happy with the Wayne Simmonds/Tyler Ennis hit, nor should they be. Looked like it was from behind but it was definitely ruled that Ennis turned into the hit. The same thing happened last week in New York but at least Dan Girardi got a boarding penalty (although no suspension). Simmonds gets nothing but a fighting major while Mike Weber gets 17 minutes? Terrible.
Here's snippets from the locker room. Bad start for the Sabres, bad finish for me with some tape recorder problems.
