Sabres getting used being in - and winning - one-goal games

By John Vogl

When the Sabres dropped Montreal, 3-2, Saturday night, it continued a trend of being in -- and winning -- one-goal games.

Eleven of Buffalo's last 13 games have been decided by one goal. The Sabres are 6-2-3 in the close contests.

"It’s so tight across the whole league that you pretty much expect to play a one-goal game every night," right wing Brian Flynn said.

Coach Ron Rolston certainly does. He's prepared the Sabres for it. They were 3-5-1 in one-goal games before he took over.

"We had 34 one-goal games last year," said the former Amerks coach, "and the process is we know every night that we’re in games now, every single game we’re in the game, and the margin of error is smaller, and that’s what we have to improve.

"We have to be able to win 2-1 or 3-2 or 4-3. It puts those young players in settings where they’re going to develop because the games are so pressure-packed and the margin of error is very small."
