NEW YORK -- Thomas Vanek isn't ready to return. Ryan Miller isn't ready to come out.
Vanek, the Sabres' leading scorer, will miss his second straight game with an upper-body injury tonight when Buffalo visits the New York Rangers.
"For his best interests and the best interests of the team right now, we decided to hold him out," interim coach Ron Rolston said this evening in Madison Square Garden. "He just can’t do some of the things we need him to do. He’s real close, though."
The Sabres continue their four-game road trip Tuesday in Carolina, and Rolston said Vanek showed signs of being able to play against the Hurricanes.
Miller, meanwhile, will make his 13th straight start tonight. He is 9-10-1 with a 2.82 goals-against average and .916 save percentage. Backup Jhonas Enroth hasn't played since giving up four goals, including three in the first period, in a loss to Ottawa on Feb. 5.
"We’re just again going game to game," Rolston said. "There is a plan in terms of we have to get him in here in this next stretch. It’s just picking the right opportunity."
