Sabres sign Jacobs, leaving West Seneca's Lepkowski as last unsigned junior drafted in 2011

By John Vogl

Colin Jacobs got a taste of life in the Buffalo Sabres' organization toward the end of the season. He'll get a much better feel over the next few years.

The Sabres have signed the center to an entry-level contract, Jacobs tweeted today. Terms were not immediately available.

Jacobs signed an amateur tryout deal with Rochester in mid-March and played 11 games with the Amerks. The 6-foot-2, 207-pounder recorded a goal and two assists before being scratched for Rochester's three playoff games.

Jacobs, drafted in the fourth round in 2011, had 25 goals and 53 points in 66 games this season with Prince George of the Western Hockey League.

NHL teams have two years to sign players drafted out of Canadian junior leagues, with a deadline of June 1. The only player remaining from the 2011 draft is defenseman Alex Lepkowski. The West Seneca native had nine assists in 60 regular-season games with Barrie of the Ontario Hockey League. The 6-foot-4 blue-liner added two goals and two assists in 22 playoff games.
