The Sabres are off to an unprecedented start. They’ve lost their opening three games in regulation for the first time in history.
So when is the initial victory going to come?
The Sabres get three chances this week. They host Tampa Bay (1-1) on Tuesday and Columbus (1-1) on Thursday, then travel to defending champion Chicago (1-0-1) on Saturday.
After that, they have an arduous run of four games in six days: home against Minnesota, Vancouver and Colorado; and on the road against the Islanders.
If the Sabres don’t win this week, they’ll be on the verge of more dubious history. The 1990-91 (0-4-3) and 1999-2000 (0-5-2) editions were winless in their opening seven games.
