When you're fired up and emotional, it's probably not the best time to be talking to a media gaggle in Toronto.
And so was the realization of John Scott after his quote from the Sabres-Leafs game in Toronto earned him plenty of ink and air time. Interviewed on the MSG broadcast, he was asked about the 14 minutes in penalties he received after a collision with Toronto defenseman Dion Phaneuf early in the third period started an altercation.
“All of a sudden I’m not allowed to hit him anymore. He’s ‘Princess Phaneuf.’ It’s a joke,” Scott said Saturday night.
Monday morning after the Sabres practice at First Niagara Center, the forward voiced some regret over his choice of words.
"That was a slip of the tongue. I was just obviously a little emotional at the time. ... Kinda regret saying it," Scott said.
"It's a non-issue. I just once again was kinda shooting my mouth off. A little too fired up after the game and said something, didn't realize it would get the kind of traction it's gotten."
