Two former Buffalo Sabres are making headlines this morning, although it's not the good kind for Thomas Vanek and the New York Islanders.

The leftwinger left Saturday's game against Columbus after a 23-second opening shift in the first period with an upper body injury. No details were given after the game, but Vanek fell awkwardly after being tripped up by Columbus goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky. Newsday reported that Vanek will miss tonight's game in Montreal and be evaluated when the team returns to Long Island.

The Islanders 5-2 loss to the Blue Jackets in Columbus was the third straight for the team.

Meanwhile Jason Pominville netted his 200th career goal Saturday night, and scored the winning goal in the shootout as the Minnesota Wild defeated Carolina, 3-2.

Pominville's milestone goal came on a breakway 3:33 into the first period. He has 11 goals and three assists in 18 games for the Wild this season.
