The NHL has suspended Penguins forward James Neal five games for his knee to the head of Brad Marchand during Saturday's stupid play-filled game between Pittsburgh and Boston.
With Marchand on the ice, Neal saw him and skated right through, kneeing the Boston forward in the process. Neal earned a phone hearing with Brendan Shanahan, and the NHL disciplinarian handed out the five-game ban today. It will cost Neal $128,205.15 in salary.
Shanahan will have an in-person hearing with Boston's Shawn Thornton, who pulled down Brooks Orpik and knocked the defenseman unconscious. The date has yet to be announced.
