Welcome to game day and a morning filled with roster moves before the Sabres host the Winnipeg Jets at 7 p.m. in First Niagara Center
The breakdown again from Buffalo Sabres camp:
- Defensemen Mark Pysyk and Brayden McNabb and forward Luke Adam were assigned to Rochester.
- Forward Kevin Porter and defenseman Chad Ruhwedel were recalled from Rochester.
Interim coach Ted Nolan said that Pysyk will be in Rochester for a short time with the plan to recall him when Rochester returns from Switzerland where they will play in a six-team tournament for the Spengler Cup Dec. 26-31.
"Obviously Mark can play in this team and play in this league. But is he at the mature level we think he could be at? Not yet," Nolan said after the team took an optional morning skate. "So he needs a little more time to mature. He’s going to be a different send down. He’s not going down for a long time. He’s just going down for a few days and then they’re going over to the Spengler Cup and he’ll join us right after that. But we’re going to try the best way to try and get him some quality minutes and develop him mautre wise. He’s not a big guy yet. As we go on in the season the games are going to get tougher and tougher. We want to make sure he’s in a good position."
Other roster highlights:
Cody Hodgson is back in the lineup after missing two games with a lower body injury. Also back from injured reserve is defenseman Alexander Sulzer.
That means all the Sabres defensemen are healthy and ready to go making recalled Ruhwedel an extra body. Nolan said that "it’s unfair to bring someone into the lineup just for numbers wise so he’s here for safety reasons right now."
