The Sabres' roster features only four players who've recorded 50 or more points in a season. They have a chance to add another.
The Islanders have waived veteran forward Pierre-Marc Bouchard. The last-place Sabres lead the list of teams that could claim him before noon Tuesday.
Bouchard had three straight seasons of 57-plus points playing for the Minnesota Wild. He joined the Islanders this season on a one-year, $2 million contract but hasn't fit in. He started the year on the top line with John Tavares and Matt Moulson but lost the spot with just four goals and nine points in 28 games.
The 29-year-old has a concussion history but has a point-producing track record matched in Buffalo by only Moulson, Drew Stafford, Christian Ehrhoff and Ville Leino.
