Meanwhile on the ice ...

by Amy Moritz

Amidst the whirlwind of the Buffalo Sabres hiring Tim Murray as their new general manager and adding Hall of Famer Craig Patrick as a special assistant to the hockey department, the team prepared for a game.

The majority of the Sabres were on the ice for the optional morning skate as the team hosts the Florida Panthers at 7 tonight at First Niagara Center.

And that included Mikhail Grigorenko who had returned from the World Junior Championships where he earned bronze with Team Russia.

Ted Nolan said that Grigorenko had just returned from overseas and would not be in the lineup tonight. He also said the discussion about whether to keep Gringorenko with the Sabres or return him to his junior team was still in progress.

The Sabres also placed Drew Stafford on injured with an upper body injury. That brings five players on IR for the Sabres along with Cody McCormick, Cody Hodgson, Kevin Porter and Henrik Tallinder. Hodgson skated with the team in the morning skate in a red non-contact jersey.

Ville Leino has been out with a lower body injury and will not play tonight.

Also, the NHL announced the game between the Sabres and Carolina which was postponed due to blizzard conditions, has been rescheduled for 7 p.m., Feb. 25.
