Morning skate canceled, tonight's game currently in limbo

By Mike Harrington

The Sabres have canceled their game-day morning skate in advance of tonight's scheduled game against Carolina in First Niagara Center, and have informed the media that pregame availibility for players and coach Ted Nolan will begin at 4:45. That's on the assumption, of course, that the game is played as scheduled.

The team reported this morning that it is currently discussing its options regarding tonight's game with the Hurricanes and the NHL. Carolina arrived safely into Buffalo yesterday afternoon.

Even though the FNC is available, the game cannot be rescheduled to Wednesday night. That's because the Hurricanes have games Thursday at home against Toronto and Friday at Columbus, and NHL teams are not allowed to play three straight days.

Any postponement will be difficult to make up because of the compacted schedule caused by the Olympics.
