Roll the highlight film: Video clips of top saves by Ryan Miller

(With Ryan Miller likely spending his last few days as a member of the Sabres, The News will take a look back his 12-season run in Buffalo.)

By John Vogl

Ryan Miller's ability to read plays has allowed him to make impressive saves look routine throughout his career. He can see things develop, move to the right spot and be square to the shooter. It isn't flashy, just effective.

Sometimes, however, a little flash is needed.

Miller made numerous spectacular saves during his 12 seasons with the Sabres. Here are two of the most memorable, plus a pair of compilation videos:

*Boston, Jan. 15, 2007, against the Bruins' Paul Mara.

"I didn't really get a good jump on that first pass, and then I didn't get a great jump on the second pass," Miller said. "It kind of left me getting my feet under me, and when he went to that third man trailing, I just got my body spun around and played percentages. I just kept everything high and came down with it."

*Washington, Jan. 12, 2014, against the Capitals' Mikhail Grabovski.

“That’s one of those ones where you’re completely out of options,” Miller said. “The puck came through traffic and hit me right in the pads instead of the stick. I knew I was in trouble because I saw him kind of reload and get in position. Those can certainly go wrong for you. More often than not, those guys are going to score. I don’t think he got quite all of it, and it gave me time to kind of put a blade on it.”
